Introduction: Thomas Underhill, Fractional CPO, CTO, CPTO for early-stage and emerging growth software startups

Posted .
Hi everyone,

My name is Thomas and I am a fractional CPO, CTO, CPTO specializing in helping early-stage establish product/market fit and helping emerging growth software startups build delightful, trusted customer experiences. After 25+ years in software leadership, including founding LAINIE.ai (legal assistant platform) and serving as Sr. Director of Product at F5 NGINX, Director of Product Trust at VMware, Sr. Director of Product Development at Oracle Cloud, and engineering leadership at Amazon, I now focus on helping early-stage and emerging growth startups. For early-stage, I focus on ensuring product/market fit and course correcting as needed. For emerging growth, I take a different approach and help the organization meet the expectations of enterprise customers. I also have a U.S. Government Clearance and extensive experience with global government markets, so I can help there as well. I've spent some of the past 7 years in the AI realm - with that being an area of focus currently.

I am a polymath with a business and legal academic background, yet a technical professional background (including one patent through Oracle in data integrity/security). Some of the products that I've owned/built include HashiCorp (Terraform, Vault), VMware Tanzu, NGINX, AWS Dedicated Clouds, Oracle Fusion Cloud, PayPal (as an architect), and eBay (as an architect). I have managed combined product and engineering teams of up to 60 people and global engineering teams of up to 75 people with locations across multiple continents. I bring a frugal mindset and won an innovation award for multi-million dollar cost savings reinventing a SaaS company's flagship platform. I work across many industries, rapidly synthesizing industry-specific needs.

I am based in Denver, but relocating to San Francisco in the coming months. I spend some of the year in Florida as well. I can work remotely or onsite to best meet the client's needs.

Looking forward to contributing to this community.
