Fractional dev gig - Ruby on Rails

Posted .
Hey all -

I'm looking for some help with a Ruby on Rails project.

Details:

I'm helping a seed-stage AI startup build a data platform. It involves lots of scraping and data analysis. This is a new project with in an existing suite of products they have.
The stack is Rails 7 with Stimulus.js, Tailwind, Sidekiq, and OpenAI. There are a lot of data jobs running periodically with Sidekiq.
I'm looking for somebody to help with a mix of tasks that might include:
  • Writing a scraper that iterates through a website and enqueues Sidekiq jobs
  • Writing services that call OpenAI and enforce JSON-encoded responses of a particular format
  • Building an onboarding UI, and starting to componentize it with View Component
  • Building a upsell flow with Stripe
  • Setting up email and a basic template and wiring it in
  • Improving SEO of individual pages
  • Scaling sitemaps to handle >100k pages
The work would be mostly async - organized in Linear and Slack. The time commitment is flexible, but the expectation is at least half-time availability with periodic daytime availability as needed if we want any calls.
The ideal candidate is comfortable moving from backend to frontend somewhat fluidly in Rails, and has experience writing Stimulus controllers, organizing erb files in folders, and using sidekiq jobs.

If you're interested, please fill out this form. I'll probably ask to do a quick call with people before making a referral, so please include a calendly link or general availability in the form.

(I'm trying Upside for the first time, so also feel free to send feedback about Upside here as a comment)
